REGENCY
In the brief Regency period, which we always associate with Jane Austen, dress could not have been more different from all that had gone before. Ladies abandoned layers of clothing in favour of simple little shift like dresses, remarkably similar to those worn by young girls. Gentlemen became figure conscious in their very tight fitting new trousers and tail coats. The greatest source of inspiration was the classical world and its influence can be seen as clearly in the houses of the time as the clothes of their inhabitants.
